Do-it-yourself

Could you find and exploit the hidden gold in your organization by yourself? It's certainly possible.

Is it the right decision to try? The answer is, "Maybe" and there's information below to help you decide.

The four key factors

Some of the factors you'll want to consider are

  • Extent of potential benefitCan you get all the juice out ? We typically find we are more ambitious for our clients than they are for themselves.
  • Likelihood you can achieve it on your own.
  • Time it will take to achieve it on your own
  • Effort involved.

If you're considering the DIY route, then here are the minimum steps we'd recommend:

  • Read Start With What Works and Committed Action by Andy Bass.
  • Get the free resources that accompany the books.
  • Sign up for our next webinar.
  • Assign an intern or other internal person to ...
  • Get your team to read the book
  • Do a Treasure Hunt (SWWW p.XX)
  • etc

We are considering offering an online programme, so if that could be a good fit for you, register your interest.

Not sure what to do?

Ask yourself these questions/take a scorecard:

  1. Do you and your team have the necessary expertise and experience to bring about the change you want to make?
  2. Do you have time and willingness to familiarise yourself with the concepts to the extent that you can not just understand and evaluate them, but get them done in your organization?
  3. Are you and your team able to commit the time and resources required to effectively implement the change while still managing your daily operations?
  4. Do you have the capacity to conduct the research and analysis to identify the best approach for the change you want to make?
  5. Can you objectively assess your organization's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and develop an effective change strategy based on that assessment?
  6. Can you engage your team and create the commitment necessary to execute new ideas?
  7. Is the change you want to make a one-time event, or is it part of a larger initiative that will require ongoing support and expertise?
  8. Does your organization have the financial resources to hire external consultants to help with the change?
  9. Would hiring consultants bring in new perspectives and fresh ideas that could benefit your organization's change efforts?
  10. Can you call on rockstars like Rory?
